Two people were shot and killed Saturday night in the Siskiyou County town of Fort Jones and deputies have arrested a Yreka man on suspicion of their murder.
A spokeswoman for the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said authorities began receiving 911 calls about 8 p.m. of a person who was shooting at people in Fort Jones.
Spokeswoman Allison Giannini said Earl Richard Stanfield, 56, of Yreka has been arrested on suspicion of the murders.
He was booked early this morning on suspicion of two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, according to the Siskiyou County Jail's website.
The victims have been identified as 29-year-old Ronald Minard of Yreka and 52-year-old Darrell Henderling of Fort Jones.
Giannini said Stanfield was at a party earlier in the night when he got into a fight with one of the victims.
He came back to the residence on the 16000 block of Indian Creek Road about 45 minutes later and shot both men with a handgun as they approached him, Giannini said.
Family members of the victims managed to disarm and detain Stanfield, she said.
He was treated at Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka for some injuries then booked into Siskiyou County without bail, Giannini said.
According to dispatch reports, some Shasta County law enforcement officers are even heading up to Fort Jones this morning to assist with the incident.
Anyone with more information on this case should call Detective Jeff Moser at 841-2900.
